11/04/07 - Psycho Killers...............

When we were over at Western Star in January, Alan mentioned that he was compiling a compilation called "Psycho Killers" for Cherry Red records.  He asked us if we had any serial killer songs that might be suitable for him to include, we said "no" but Henry said that he'd write one.  So that night he went home and wrote "Texarcana Moonlight", brought it in the next day, we bashed through it a couple of times and recorded it, all done in a coulple of hours and it's ace.  Buy it here, look at the lyrics here

31/03/07 - New old photos in the gallery............

21/03/07 - Yes, but it's not exactly news is it...........

So, yesterday was the first big bore of the spring and we went to Minsterworth on the banks of the river Severn to do a bit of filming for our song "Surfin' The Severn Bore".  ITV came along too and filmed us for a section on the evening news.  It was absolutely freezing making it pretty hard trying to mime along to the song, and Henry faced some tough questioning but I think we got away with it.  As soon as we've worked out how to do it, we'll post the clip. In in the meantime there are some photos in the gallery, and here is a video from one of our crazy surfing friends:

23/02/07 - Track of The Week

This week "Double Neck Guitar" is track (they mean song) of the week in the Americana charts at Garageband.  This is quite an honour they tell us, apparently only 52 songs a year get this award, here is the badge to prove it:

Somehow it got into the Pop charts too, and we we got another track of the day:

09/02/07 - Family Tree

After months of hard work, we have finally finished the Bad Detectives family tree.  It goes back quite a while, but remember, most of us were mere childeren when this all started! There are probably some mistakes,  everyone is very hazy on dates and line ups, but this is as close as we're gonna get for now, click here to see it

20/01/07 - Western Star Studio

07/01/07 - Garageband update............

Today "Sacred and Profane" is the Americana Track Of The Day.

"B-Movie Scientist" wins it's way into round 2 of the competition.

But despite being awarded "Most Original Song" on the whole site, "Ralph The Diving Pig" drops out of the contest (too experimental for them we suppose).

16/12/06 - No. 20 with a bullet..............

"Double Neck Guitar" is riding high in the Americana chart on Garageband, scoring us another "Track Of The Day"

09/12/06Track Of The Day............

We've got a version of the hit single "Son Of Kong" for you, and another montage, this time of Great Balls Of Fire, Don't You Just Know It, Train Kept-A-Rollin', Louie Louie and Wipeout.

Thanks to novice director Steve for filming us, look out for some rather ambitious (beer fuelled) camera angles!

13/11/06 - Even more live footage......

Here is a little montage of Let It Rock, Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down, Flyin' Saucers, I'm A Hog For You Baby and Route 66.

20/10/06 - Recording Session

We have just confirmed some dates in January to vanish from normal life for a few days to record some new songs and put the finishing touches to "B-Movie Beat", our second full release.

Alan Wilson has recently finished building and equipmenting a new sound recording laboratory, so we felt obliged to book some time to go twiddle, press, mess and generally play with glowing things that we don't understand.

15/10/06 - Downloads......!Update!.....

Oh yeah, iTunes as well.

08/10/06 - Downloads......

We know that you kids like to download and there are many places that you can find our stuff. You can get each song for as little as 75p, and for completists, our compilation contributions are all available individually too.  We highly recommend Cherry Red, but you could also try Wippit, Daily Snack, This Is London, Easy Music or 7 Digital.

01/10/06 - YouTube......

Hey! We've set up a YouTube account.  Only one rubbish video on it so far, but I'm sure there will be more to come - have a look here

30/08/06 - Songs From 1981.....

Henry recently found an old tape of songs recorded in 1981, they are:

Incognito, Running Out Of Money - Running Out Of Love, Alibi Club and Teenage Monster

At least one of these songs made it onto one of the infamous "Sheep Worrying" complilations at the time, the rest have not been heard since the recording.  As far as we can make out the line up was: Henry (Guitar/Vocals), Bunce (Vocals/Harp), Chris (Drums), Ivan (Bass), Ed (Guitar).  You can listen to them and download them for free at their own Myspace page.

09/07/06 - Frome Festival.........

What a fantastic night! Thanks to everyone who came along to contribute to such a great evening. First up regards to Joss from Sonic Reducer who came along to man the decks during the evening and keep the mood flowing then it's hello to our good friend Ralph and his band Animals and Men who kicked the night off in fine style reprising songs from their early days and at least one fine new number. Our aim for the night was to play all self -penned songs from our back catalogue plus some that will appear on next years new release, all the songs seemed to go down well and even attracted some audience participation at times. Andy was in fine form kicking over beer and lurching at the crowd, Chris was using "eau de sweat" aftershave, Paul's thrash FAILED! to break a string and Ivan just pinned the whole thing down as usual. I just boggle that the whole thing comes together at all.

Thanks to all of you who turned out to support us watch the websites for news - we should be flogging some merchandise soon in our own little disorganised way. Last thanks go to Nick and Naomi for giving us gigs and feeding us beer.

Next saturday July 15th go out again and check out the Stiffs at the Griff'.

31/05/06 - Ace Cafe...........

Saturday night saw the official launch of Western Star's new release "Joe Meek Shall Inherit The Earth" at the Ace Cafe in London. The Bad Detectives deputation was in attendance enjoying the original Meek records being played by the D.J. and selected plays from the disc. There was a performance featuring a version of the Tornados and a chance to purchase copies of the album from hard working label boss Alan Wilson.

The Ace is a fantastic place and bikers were dropping in and out of the car park throughout the day as did many classic cars and their drivers. The juke box seems to play back to back classic rock n' roll I advise you go there if you get a chance (try the breakfast).

18/05/06 - Recorded Tracks..........

Here is a list of completed tracks already recorded at Western Star this year. The bulk of these will make up the new c.d. in '07 although there may be an opportunity to record more before then.

The titles are :-
Double Neck Guitar
Bubble Car
Ralph The Diving Pig
B-Movie Scientist
Hubba Hubba
Sacred And Profane
'59 Pop
I Fell In Love With The Mole Mans Girl
Muddy River
Teenagers From Outer Space

As time goes on i'll give an explanation of the subject matter of each song and post all the lyrics.

16/05/06 - Joe Meek Tribute Vol 2

I've just been listening to an advance copy of the new Western Star album "Joe Meek shall inherit the earth Vol 2" and it's even better than the first one. We have two tracks on the collection "What To Do" and "Leave My Kitten Alone" both songs were laid down by Meek's beat group the Syndicats and are later examples of his work.

The whole collection is fantastic and contains contributions from John Leyton, Clem Cattini, Ray Fenwick,Graham Fenton, Ian Gomm (a particular favorite of mine), and even a track from Wurzels singer Pete Budd. Check out the Western Star website for more details.

The album is being launched with a gig at the Ace Cafe London featuring the Tornados on Sat May 27th most of the Bad Detectives are attending and it should be a good night. Other artists on the recording will be there and of course main man Alan "Howling" Wilson.

14/05/06 - Mells Barn

The band played a rockin' gig at Mells Barn last night. The theme was Australia which saw the band wearing corks on their hats for part of the set.The hall was decked out with inflatable crocodiles, snakes and sharks with lots of other Aussie gear (flags, surfboards etc) adding to a great atmosphere in the room. We were groovin' to Rolf Harris on the disco and most of the partygoers were dressed in an antipodean stylee.

The 'Tecs played two sets in our usual quickfire manner then chilled out with too many beers to drive home at the end so gig funds had to be raided for taxification. During the evening while Paul was spinning the tunes Chris was dancing around wearing the head from an alligator costume and Andy was trying to balance a beer glass on his head. Henry's hat made him look like a cross between Benny Hill and Hoss from Bonanza while Ivan as usual watched with detatched amusement.

Good luck to Sarah and her family for their new life down under from the band don't drop yer Dingo down the dunny.

24/04/06 - MySpace.....

We recently went live on MySpace which means that you can catch up with Henrys blogs, listen to more splendid Bad Detectives songs and meet loads of our (pretend) friends.

15/04/06 - Distribution.....

We have been lucky enough to do a distribution deal with Nervous Records through Western Star Records which means you can now buy "Get Hip - Let Rip" from many online retailers including HMV, WOOLWORTHS, TESCO and VIRGIN...

01/04/06 - New album is in progress.....

Yes, almost a year after "Get Hip-Let Rip", our first album proper was released, we are getting close to finishing our second offering. Release date is likely to be early 2007.

You will be pleased to hear that the new album will be less mature than the first one and hasn't been difficult at all to write...in fact we don't predict the arrival of the "difficult" album until 2012, and that will only be because one of us will probably have died by then.
