To start with, have a look the BAD DETECTIVES FAMILY TREE by clicking here. Where to begin? There were a load of mates right, and they all liked music, good music mind, not the crap stuff y'know (see hero worship for details)....Mark "Henry" Hutton and Ivan Bojczuk were founding members and they got a garage sorted along with some mates....Ralph Mitchard, Bunce and later Kev Saunders who went on to join Frenzy (and did "other" things as well ). They proceeded... to learn a load of great rythmn'n'blues songs in a really trashy way and went round the local Frome circuit playing gigs and partys and generally behaving in a very surly (and drunken) way....it was 1977 after all...if you don't like us - we don't really care was the attitude of the day....marvellous! At around the beginning of thr 1980's Bunce who was the drummer became the singer and harp player and Ed Larman joined on guitar. Ralph left to form a neo punk band called Animals and Men, he then subsequently went on to have indie success in a band called The Terraplanes, and Chris Woodland became the drummer. Now, although they recorded just a few demo tunes, this band were great and went down a storm wherever they played. They even became the subject of an ITV news story when they caused a riot at a gig in Taunton. But being the least ambitious band in the world takes a lot of effort and the original line up soon became weary of practices and commitment so temporarily split to concentrate on having a bloody good time. Several lazy years ....rolled past with only a minimum of musical offerings to show for them....some very dodgy pop experiments involving Ivan on bass, Ed on guitar, Jane Owen on vocals and Chris Woodland on drums took place... Henry, Ivan and Andy also formed a "power trio " version of The Bad Detectives, hammering out old MC5 and Flaming Groovies numbers....that was a lot of fun, did a few gigs and that was that. Several more years tumbled by with everyone by and large keeping in touch but again not doing very much until ..... The mid 1980's saw....the band start gigging again with Henry (guitar), Ivan (bass), Chris (drums), Ed (guitar) and Andy (harp) getting booked regularly to play at the Cellar Bar alongside a new band called The Lauging Stock who later changed their name to Chocolate starfish when Henry joined to help on guitar. The two bands played loads of gigs together until Ed left, Chocolate Starfish disbanded and their singer, Paul Tozer, joined The Bad Detectives after a seminal gig at the First and Last pub in Frome that gig was attended by about 12 people (although thousands now claim to have been there!). And that's pretty much....where we've been since the mid 1990's....Henry and Paul on guitars, Ivan on bass, Chris on drums and Andy on harp, melodian and organ.....and all of us having a crack at the vocal duties on various different songs. The only difference now being.....that we got tired of being lazy and are now writing our own songs, recording at a proper recording studio, putting records out, getting them played on the radio and doing loads of proper gigs.
